At some point, when the time in "Hotel Mama", in the student residence, etc. is a thing of the past, many men long for their own home with a garden. Because as exciting as city life can be, it's also stressful. Many young people are therefore increasingly drawn to the countryside and hobbies related to nature are suddenly in vogue... hiking or mountain biking, for example. But DIY and gardening are also enjoying increasing popularity again. We will therefore tell you why a garden is not just for women and what options are open to you.

"Do-It-Yourself" is the motto

Even if it may have gained momentum due to the lockdowns of the past few months, "do-it-yourself" in all its variations were already in vogue before that. The development was therefore only fueled and persists. “Do-It-Yourself”, or DIY for short, is the motto of many people in a wide variety of situations these days. For example, they tailor their own clothes, build their own furniture, repair broken items themselves or grow their own vegetables.

Saving money is mostly just a positive side effect. The main motivation for such hobbies, on the other hand, is the opportunity to live out your own creativity, to make individual things, and to work with your hands like our grandfathers once did. A perfect counterbalance to the office job, which offers incredible satisfaction. Many people can also optimally relax with DIY projects and thus switch off from the stressful (working) everyday life. And with men, of course, there is also the aspect that DIY with tools and heavy machinery is perceived as masculine. A lot of women find that very attractive.

Gardening is back in fashion

If you've got a taste for it and are thinking about what you could do yourself in everyday life, you probably don't think of gardening directly. But you should, because it combines all the advantages of DIY hobbies mentioned with valuable time in the fresh air and in nature. At this point, the circle closes because, as already mentioned, more and more young people are consciously looking for closeness to nature. After all, it offers peace, relaxation, and a certain freedom that many people miss in their everyday lives.

It has even been scientifically proven how beneficial being in nature is for the body and soul. The dream of having your own garden is by no means just one of the women, but more and more men are becoming enthusiastic about this idea. Because at second glance, the garden offers numerous design options, so that everyone can find a DIY hobby to suit their own taste - maybe even a shared hobby with their partner or the whole family.

Ideas for DIY projects in your own garden

In the garden, there are typical activities such as planting flowers, herbs or vegetables. Likewise, some tasks such as lawn mowing or hedge trimming have to be done. But not everyone finds it fun, after all, the creative aspect that is at the forefront of DIY projects is often missing. In addition to classic gardening, you can therefore tackle other projects that offer you more design freedom or in which you can do manual work. In this way, classic gardening can be perfectly combined with the current DIY trend and you will certainly find a project that suits your own taste. For example, how about…?

1. Terrace

The patio is the focal point of the garden. Here the family sits together at dinner. Here you will find shade when it gets too hot. You can also relax in a deck chair. You can build such a terrace yourself as you wish, for example out of wood, tiles or paving stones. You can also install a canopy to protect the patio from inclement weather or excessive sunlight. For example, you can attach a glass roof with an under-glass awning as comfortable sun protection at the touch of a button or build a small conservatory directly. There are no limits to your creativity.

2. Grill station

A summer without a barbecue? Unthinkable for many men, which is why they grill at the first opportunity in spring. A grill station should therefore not be missing in the home garden. It doesn't always have to be the classic grill that disappears back into the garage after use. Instead, you can build a stone grill or design a permanently installed grill station according to your own taste. Add a cozy seating area and you can invite friends or family over for a barbecue as you wish – regardless of the weather thanks to the covered terrace.

3. Children's playground

If you have children, you can let off steam in the garden by creating a swing, a slide, a playhouse, or other great ideas. Be honest: Many fathers don't just do this for the sake of their children, but also find fun playing and romping around in their own garden again...

4th bar

If you often invite friends over to your house, a bar for your garden might be a great idea. On the one hand, it looks cool, especially with the right lighting, and on the other hand, it ensures unforgettable evenings with beer, cocktails, etc. It is the focal point for every garden party and at the same time, you can prove your skills behind the bar.

5. Garden path

If, on the other hand, you want a classic project, you can devote yourself to the garden path. After all, every garden is optically enhanced if a small path leads through it, for example from the terrace to the garden house. Here, too, you can work according to your own taste, for example with wood or cobblestones. And here, as with the bar, the right lighting should not be missing. Then the garden path becomes a real eye-catcher at night.

As you can see, having your own garden offers you numerous opportunities for DIY projects that are not only fun but also ensure relaxation and improve the quality of living in your own home. So if you thought until now that gardening was only for women, we have now convinced you otherwise!
