It's 7:30 in the morning and your little loved alarm wakes you up. Your resulting mediocre mood doesn't really improve when you think about a nine-hour workday because you don't feel like the job at all. So you're lying in bed, staring motionless at the ceiling and wondering if that's really all there is to it.

You keep coming to the conclusion that you were basically made for something bigger. In your mind you go through jobs that would suit you much better and that you would have a lot more fun with. But even before you steer the 747-400 over the runway as a captain in your mind, you realize that the opportunity to become a pilot has long since “flown”. You don't really have a plan B ready and you won't be able to come up with a plan C today either, because you're still lying in bed and should have finished showering by now.

So your day starts with nothing but stress - but it shouldn't go on like this. You need new motivation. Something that gets you up in the morning before the alarm clock and you are grateful that a new working day lies ahead of you. We'll show you how to do it in five simple ways.

Positive thoughts

It's very easy to just think about the negative things you don't like all day long. The problem is that negative thoughts make you tired and weak. They simply rob you of important energy that you could use far better because they unbalance your body's biochemistry. In short: Nobody needs that!

It is much better for you and your well-being if you concentrate exclusively on beautiful things and positive thoughts. Don't lie in bed and tell yourself that you don't feel like working, instead filter out the things about your work that bring you joy. Things that you like that might make you laugh or feel good about yourself. Focus on joy and how to achieve it today. Maybe a short conversation with your favorite colleague, a good idea that you present to your boss and he will praise you for it, or just because you tell your colleague a new joke and he laughs heartily at you and your humor.

gift yourself

If nobody else is doing you good, make sure you are doing well yourself. What have you wanted for a long time? What do you particularly enjoy? Where have you always wanted to go at night? How about a Tinder date? Make a list of things that would bring you joy and distribute those things throughout the month. The next time you wake up in the morning, it might be the day when your long-awaited Playstation game is sent in the evening after work. You'll find that your mood at work will naturally be a lot better than usual. Reward systems are a pretty sure-fire way to boost your mood. Even if it's not always cheap. But that's always up to you.

Step by step

You don't think much of giving yourself gifts? Also, you don't play any console games and you're not available for dates either? Good, then there is also a suitable solution for someone like you. Take small steps. What's the point? Very easily. If you're already thinking in bed in the morning about how abnormally much there will be to do today, then this fact makes getting up immensely difficult. It would be much better if you set yourself small stages that you have to do for yourself. The highlight behind this is that you will achieve a small sense of achievement again and again throughout the day. Does good and feels good. Then you give yourself a little break and then you go to your next destination. In this way, you can also handle larger tasks in a good mood and more efficiently,

Work undisturbed when it matters

You can twist and turn it all you want, but you can't get around this mountain of work? This happens to everyone and you have to go through it. But how to keep the negative feeling as short and small as possible? It's simple: close the door, put your phone on airplane mode, turn off the music and remove everything that could distract you. Now it's all about you and your work ahead of you. You will see very quickly that it is much more pleasant to work on an ugly thing permanently without distraction than if you were constantly distracted by something and then had to think about your crippling task again. Avoid these annoying re-entrants, because they also rob you of your strength.

Don't break the chain

Like, what chain? A more or less imaginary chain, of course. Although it will somehow be on your calendar. Ok, slowly and from the beginning. Next weekend you take a little time and create a to-do list (TDL) for the next seven days. This TDL can be as simple as doing laundry or calling grandma. But also difficult things related to your work. Be careful not to make the daily to-do list too long, because everything still has to be feasible. Here we go.

You did everything on your TDL on the first day? Very good, then make a big and bold cross in your calendar. Tomorrow you will do it again and get the next cross. The more crosses there are, the prouder you will be and the more you will try not to let a day go by without completing your TDL because that would break the chain and you would have to start over. These many small and visible successes will reflect in your mind and make you feel better.
